Otherwise known as Kunzite (in the Japaenese
version), Malachite is the most powerful of all of
the Sailor Scouts adversaries. In the Japenese
version, he was known as one of Beryl's four
kings. But, because of DiC, we know him better as
one of the four generals. Also because of DiC,
Malachite changes sexual orientations (Zoisite was
a male in the japenese version). Malachite's last
appearance was in episode #44 where Queen
Serenity's ghost was the only thing that saved
Sailor Moon and the scouts. Unfortunately, Sailor
Moon (by pure luck) managed to cause his
Boomerangs to work against him. Kunzite was the
smartest, most clever character to ever grace the
show. He only fails due to external circumstances.
Kunzite's/Malachite's job in the series is to
ontain the Silver Imperial Crystal. He would have
succeeded if it were not for Sailor Venus
mysteriously appearing or Endymion (Endymion and
Malachite are such rivals! Endymion hates it how
Malachite has humans do all the dirty work.).
Another thing to notice is how loyal he is to his
love, Zoisite (whether it be male or female).
Malachite had trained Zoisite. When Zoisite failed
and was destroyed by Queen Beryl, Malachite was
shattered...And then when he was finally
destroyed, his last words were: "Zoisite...it's
me! I'll be coming to join you real soon,
Zoisite...Do you hear me?!"
Japenese name: Kunzite
American name: Malachite
Powers: Transmigration, Teleportation,
Telekenesis, Pscosis
Malachite/Kunzite is the fourth general/King of
the Negaforce/Dark Kingdom. He seems to be the
most powerful as well of the other four. He first
shows up in brief scenes with Zoycite...comforting
her/him and giving her/him advise. A shadowy
figure...Later there is more scenes of Malachite
and Zoycite and finally Malachite and Zoycite work
other to defeat the sailors. Their plan with
capturing the sailor scouts almost worked but they
didn't count on Sailor Venus to attack them. I
found it interesting in that scene the way Zoycite
was so quick to protect Malachite when his hand
was wounded. She was willing to take on all the
other scouts herself even and placed herself
before Malachite. Must be true love. Zoycite's
death scene is touching. One can really feel
Malachite's loss and anger at the death of
Zoycite. Whether it is the American version or the
anime version, there is still a relationship
between Zoycite and Malachite. With her death,
Malachite continued with a great hate for the
Sailor scouts, but he has orders from Beryl to
train Prince Darien. The same Darien who was the
ultimate cause for Zoycite's death. That had to be
really hard, but Malachite has proven that he is
able to hold his emotions in check and follow
orders. The next part is Malachite and Darien
trying to retrieve the silver empyrean crystal.
This is the part where Darien really gets on my
nerves and I would like to bop Beryl on the head.
Darien constantly interfer's with Malachite's
plans and is the cause of their failure time and
time again. Malachite is driven by hate and a
desire to revenge Zoycite's death and he doesn't
care what it takes to get things done. Once he
almost destroys all the sailors, his human
monsters he has created and Darien, to get the
crystal. As normal, it is Darien who breaks his
power and saves everyone. In the end, he finally
confronts the Sailor scouts face to face and again
nearly defeats them. But his swords are reflected
back to him and drains his own energy instead. He
dies calling to Zoycite that he will be joining
her/him. Of the all the generals, Malachite keeps
his cool the best. He does not allow his personal
feelings to get in the way except for the end. And
though he was evil, he showed great devotion and
love for Zoycite. It should be noted that in the
Manga, there is no romantic relationship between
those two characters. This was something that was
changed for TV. Also the American version gets
more mush then the Japanese version which is a
homosexual relationship. Something that the
American TV couldn't handle.
*If you have noticed, all of the negaverse seems
to be named after some gems no matter how obscure
they may seem.
**Kunzite was the original name of Malachite.
Kunzite is a light pink (the color of Malachite's
boomerangs and the rose he gave to Zoisite).
Kunzite will also break in two when struck at the
proper point...Perhaps this is why he uses two
weapons. Kunzite also fades in the sun. Malachite
is rarely seen during the day. (in fact, i can't
remember a single time that he was out in the
sun). Kunzite is often found near the gem Morganit
Beryl (notice the similarities!).
**Malachite (his US name) is the name of a gem in
copper ore. It is believed to have quite a bit of
magical powers. This stone is often used in
jewelry. Malachite doesn't have quite the advanced
symbolism as the name Kunzite does.
